![]() The writing is of generally high quality, but I agree that there were plenty of times they should have gone with a “less is more” approach. A lot of that was due to Defiance Bay’s side quest overload, but the DLC made it even worse (even if the DLC is the best part of the game arguably). Yeah PoE1 had some significant pacing problems, just like PoE2. And if not, readers are probably creating their own perfectly acceptable version in their own head, based on their own ideas of how things work. I don't think it's ever described what they look like, what their posture is like, etc, but everything about that is immediately obvious from just how they talk, what their involvement in your story is, even where you encounter them, etc. In Baldur's Gate 2 there's a thief who approaches you early on and offers you help if you raise 10,000 gold for them. Interrupting the text constantly with inane details like that just makes it hard to focus on what's meant to be important.Į.g. You communicate these things through dialogue style & location and let the reader fill in the details. It was filled with flow interruptions like constantly describing what characters were doing with their hands or twitching eyebrows or ears or how they look etc, which is a pretty big no-no from most authors I've seen who speak on the topic. I thought the first game had bad writing. Instead, after submission, click the button under your post to assign the appropriate link flair, which will produce the same spoiler tags. Paying homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire are isometric, party-based RPGs set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment. In general, it's just a much superior experience.Welcome to the Pillars of Eternity Subreddit! For one, the loading times are dramatically shorter, and you can increase the resolution further. The game itself is amazing, quite possibly one of the best I've ever played, but if you have a powerful gaming PC, just get it on that. It's a shame that Pillars of Eternity II isn't a great port. You run into one even when you're exploring the same building! I can't imagine how slow it is on the base Xbox One's built-in hard drive or an external hard drive. ![]() I installed Pillars of Eternity II on an external solid-state drive and the loading screens were still unbearable. There are also lengthy loading screens whenever you enter a new area that detract from immersion. In my opinion, the issue appears to be a lack of optimization rather than a technical limitation of the console. It's unclear why this game couldn't hit a consistent 60 FPS on Xbox One X. Pillars of Eternity II is a complex game mechanically, but its visuals are definitely not that. Let's hope that just like A Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep, the game receives an Xbox One X patch after launch. It's odd that Obsidian Entertainment – an Xbox Game Studios team – and their partners at Grip Digital, didn't put in more effort to improve it for Microsoft's latest console. The performance is also patchy depending on the area you're in and seems to be locked to 30 frames per second (FPS). The resolution appears to be 1080p and the textures are quite blurry at times. Pillars of Eternity II doesn't feature any Xbox One X enhancements. Pillars 2 (Image credit: Windows Central)
